Standard Familiar Shipping to/from Anchorage, Alaska.
For Alaska, the 20-foot Conex container is the most universal freight form factor across rural communities, including many river and smaller coastal communities. We use the Conex footprint in the same way for our shippable folded homes. If a home can ship within a 20-foot container footprint, it can reach almost any village in Alaska, whether that means barge windows, road access, or seasonal multi-modal logistics.
Typically, there is no special handling required.
PTH Standard Shipping Practices
Polar Tough Homes sells units FOB to a mutually agreeable delivery point (commonly FOB Anchorage for published/benchmark pricing)
Other Shipping Approaches
Quotes can also be provided for other FOB points (for example FOB Seattle, or FOB your closest Alaskan port served by a commercial barge or shipper) depending on the customer’s freight plan.
Homes can be moved via road without special permits or spotter cars (subject to final dimensions and routing). Like other Conex-type deliveries, skidsteers can handle final placement.
Delivery to the final site can be arranged at additional cost when needed, but most customers will either handle freight directly or work through a local builder/GC/dealer. PTH provides dimensions, weights, and guidance for handling and rigging; responsibilities and risk transfer are defined in the purchase contract.
Installation in One Day
With a prepared foundation and a small crew
When the home arrives, unfolding/setting can often occur in approximately a day for the Starter with a flat roof as shown. Others, depending on options may take a little longer. After initial installation, utility connections and exterior options may add a few more days. Arctic-tier configurations will require additional time due to the second wall system and related finishing steps.
